We have all been through a tough year, and if the last ten days are anything to go by, 2021 is shaping up to be a challenge as well. However, there is no reason why you cannot do well despite societal troubles, and perhaps personal problems that you’re still having to resolve.
We’re not here to minimize the challenges you may be struggling with. On the contrary. Sometimes, even after we’ve been struggling with life and all of its unpredictable consequences, the best thing we can do is ‘reset’ and give ourselves a new lease on life. Waiting for it to come along can mean that we’ll be waiting forever, and so if you have the time, the energy and the care to, it can be nice to change your habits slowly and begin to live more as the person you hope to become. But so far, these sound like nice platitudes. What can actually be done, in a grounded, worthwhile manner? What gives us the potential of becoming more aware of ourselves, and how can we decide to move forward into a life that feels like it belongs to us? Let’s stop with the preamble – and get to brass tacks:
Finding That Which You Love
It’s strange to think about how love operates. We too easily only think of romantic love, or perhaps familial love, when really, love can mean many things. You can full in love with a passion or a hobby. You can fall in love with literature, or art, or mechanics, or maths, or a new simple hobby, like painting mini figurines. Love is like a hose, where you point it is where you can express it, and generally, the more you water something, the more it grows. Having one thing in your life that you love doing can help you express this love in other areas of your life. It sounds too simple and almost mystical. Is the cure for 2021 found in finding a new hobby? Perhaps not. But it can certainly help you stay disciplined, excited for a new day, and maybe it’ll help you feel just a little less bitter than you have been in the past. That can really, really help.
Try New Life Aids That Help
It’s important to realise that ‘a new lease on life’ isn’t always found in adjusting your attitude and thinking positive thoughts. It’s about doing what is real and practical to help you out of a situation, or to improve your current state. For instance, taking the time to learn more about hearing aids, and perhaps even their history, can help you mitigate hearing loss that may have been troubling you so far. It might mean talking through your options with a hair loss specialist. Perhaps you need better measures to counteract your diabetes this year. We all have our troubles, and the methods we use to maintain them, and grant us a better quality of life.
Asking For Help If You Need It
Asking for help if you need i is more than just a good idea. It can be a lifeline. It can help you get out of thinking that you can do it all on your own – which people rarely can. It can also help you accept that you’ve been struggling or that you need help. This is the first step that addicts have to take, for instance, bit by bit. Often, in order to solve their problem, they need to admit they have it. Then, they need to ask for help. They need to want that help. They need to be totally vulnerable, and willing to accept their mistakes. Without that, nothing happens. Sometimes, giving up the ghost and being okay with feeling vulnerable is the first step to asking for help. And then, ironically, you’re primed to find your greatest strength.
Take Nothing For Granted
It’s hard to be grateful after a year like 2020. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find it with a little care and effort. It’s still there should you seek it, and try to. What were you grateful for in 2020? Perhaps your family came together more than you had ever expected. Perhaps you’ve been able to rely on people. Maybe it’s helped you realize not to waste your days or take them for granted when society opens back up. At the very least, maybe it’s taught you that you can make it through a horrible year.
